June 6 (Saturday) - Medium hike along the scenic Gunpowder River in MD. 7-mile, "lollypop" hike, several ups and downs, some rock scrambling. Bring good boots, water and lunch. Meet at  at 9:30 AM. Hike leader: Kim Jones at . Carpool: $3.


August 9 - Short hike 5 miles in the Lake Williams/Redman area. Hike leader: Helmut Wirschal. For additional info contact Eric Ling at (717) 815-6635. Meet at York Vo-Tec (York County High School of Technology) at 1:00 PM. Car Pool Fee: $1.

August 15 - JPJ Work Day. On September 12, the KTA is using our cabin as a base camp and the starting point for its 25 mile Susquehanna Super Hike. Come on out and help get JPJ Cabin ready for this event and the fall season. Jobs are available for everyone inside and out. There is big work and little work. Anyone like to paint? Wear old clothes and bring lunch. Meet at JPJ at 9:30 AM. Coffee, iced tea, and hot chocolate will be served with homemade brownies! Last time we went on a hike afterwards. August 16 - Medium hike. This scenic 5-mile hike starts at Wrightsville boat launch and ends at Moon Dancer Winery parking lot. We will have moderate elevation going through Murphy’s Hollow, Grace Plateau, and on to High Point, where you have a 360-degree view of the river and surrounding hills. Please bring water, snacks and wear good walking shoes/boots. Car Pool Fee $1.50. Meet at Boscov's East Parking lot (near Texas Road House) off PA 24 at 12:30 pm. Hike leader: Eric Ling (Work: 717-815-6635).

August 21 - Trail Committee Meeting Meet at the Hooper's farm at 7:15 pm to plan next year’s trail work. Everyone is invited. Contact Jim Hooper 252-3784 if you need directions or have a question.

August 23 - Medium hike Come explore Mt. Holly Springs Nature Preserve. We’ll do 5-6 miles on a variety of connecting trails in the preserve. Some short hills. Time to creek walk in Mountain Stream at the conclusion of the hike and an ice cream stop are planned. Bring water, lunch or snack, and boots. Meet at Adams Electric at 10 AM. Car Pool Fee: $3. Leader: Gwen Loose at (717) 891-9967. 


August 30 - Medium/Long Hike Starting at Pine Grove Furnace, we will follow the Buck Ridge Trail for 6 miles through the Michaux State Forest. The trail ends at the Kings Gap Environmental Education Center. At Kings Gap we will climb to the top of the mountain, which offers incredible views of the forest. Individuals looking for a more challenging hike will enjoy the Ridge Over-look, .8 miles of moderate to difficult hiking, a ridge trail with "boulder outcrops." Total hike will be about 10 miles. We will meet at Adams Electric at 9 AM and carpool to Pine Grove Furnace. Those who are interested in the 6 miles only can do that - we can leave a car at the Kings Gap lot for any one not interested in the additional 4 miles. Bring plenty of water, lunch, boots. Do something great for YOUR hiking club. Plan now to get involved! Committee members and officers are needed for next year---recruiting (also known as begging) begins in September. Our president, Tim Schmidt at (717) 235-5940 and activities chair Gwen Loose at (717) 891-9967, would enjoy speaking to you about your interest in helping the club. Do it today---and thanks.

Thursday Work Trips: Come join the group that does trail work, usually on the MDT. Call Jim Hooper at (717) 252-3784 for time and place. 

KTA Susquehanna Super Hike: September 12, 26 miles on trails along the Susquehanna River beginning at JPJ cabin. For information on the hike: www.kta-hike.org. Since the hike begins at our club cabin, we need volunteers to help at JPJ and along the hike route. Contact: Club president Tim Schmidt at (717) 235-5940 or .

Hike leaders remember to contact Phyllis Morley immediately after your hike to report number of club members and guests who were on the hike and the number of miles hiked. If the hike is cancelled, still let her know. Email or phone 764-6822 or snail mail a copy of the sign-in sheet to 2640 Wexford Lane, York, PA 17404 -anyway will do!!!

Any hike leader who has maps (topo, hand drawn, or otherwise) of past hikes they have led are asked to send a copy to Tim Schmidt, president 

    Tim has volunteered to maintain a catalog of hikes to be shared with future hike leaders who are looking for suggestions of where to hike. Thanks!

* "If there are no objections within 10 days" refers to things like almost getting a hike kicked out of a park.

A sheet is handed out to all New hikers at the parking lots before the hikes.

 

Our new place for meetings/events  is inside the York Township Recreation Building, directions as follows:

  From I-83 exit 16, take Queen St (PA-74) south for about 1 mile.  At Campbell Music, turn left onto Oak St.  Drive about a tenth of a mile and stop at the stop sign; do not turn right.  Drive straight ahead past the township building to the small building in the middle of the field.
