A welcome sheet is handed out at every hike.  This sheet has all you need to join and get on the mailing list.

FEBRUARY 1 - SHORT HIKE: A 3 to 4 mile circle hike at Susquehannock State Park in Lancaster County. We'll meet at Vo-Tec (York County High School of Technology) at 1:00 PM (in the parking lot at the old entrance of the school- facing South Queen Street- Rte. 74). Wear hiking boots and bring water. Some steep inclines and a beautiful overlook of the Susquehanna River. Carpool Fee $2 Hike Leader: Sandy Grove (717) 244-9122

FEBRUARY 1 - LONG HIKE: About 10 miles along the Prettyboy Trail in northern Baltimore County. I've never led a hike like this before, no long climbs, no stream crossings, and no bushwhacking. Bring boots, water, and lunch. Meet at Vo-Tec (York County High School of Technology), 8:30 AM. Carpool: $3.00. Leader: Tim Schmidt 717-235-5940.


FEBRUARY 8 - CHILI HIKE: Hike will be approximately 3-5 miles depending on weather conditions, and will begin at 10:00 a.m. from the JPJ cabin. Hike leader is Jim Hooper. Dinner at 1:30 PM. Call (717) 854-3437 or e-mail Julie Falsetti, before 9:00 P.M. Thursday, February 5, to make meal reservations. Meal cost will depend on Julie’s cost and can be paid at the cabin.


FEBRUARY 13-16 AWAY WEEKEND: We will play in the snow in the Endless Mts. once again, which means hiking, sledding, skiing, snowball battles, snow angels, anything your heart desires with snow. Give Jim or Joyce Hooper a call at (717) 252-3784 for information and your reservation. 


FEBRUARY 15 - MEDIUM HIKE: Approximately 7.5 miles in Michaux State Forest. We'll do a figure 8 loop on a bike path, then some old forest roads, and return on the Raccoon Run Trail. Meet at Adams Electric at 9:00 AM. Carpool fee $5. Bring lunch, water, and suitable footwear. If the ground is not frozen, there will be some wet spots. Hike leader Pat Yale (717) 495-2839 or .

FEBRUARY 22 - SHORT HIKE: Enjoy a 4-mile winter stroll at Richard M. Nixon County Park by connecting various short trails. Terrain varies from flat to steep climbs. Bring water and a snack. Wear boots and clothing for trail and weather conditions. Meet at Vo-Tec (York County High School of Technology) at 1:30 P.M. Carpool fee donation $.50. FEBRUARY 22 - LONG HIKE: French Creeks State Park. Joint hike with the Batona Club (Allen Britton was to lead this). Hike about 11 miles including a fire tower on a variety of the 35 miles of trails in the park. Optional supper stop. Meet at 8:30 AM at the Boscov's East Parking. $7.00 Carpool fee. Thursday work trips: Join the group that does trail work on Thursdays. Contact Jim Hooper (717)252-3784 or to get on the email list announcing each week’s work trip.

Membership: The following persons have fulfilled all requirements for membership and will be invited to join the club if there are no objections* within ten days:

Reminder, anyone wishing to receive their newsletter by e-mail instead of by postal mail (we have saved postage costs keeping dues down), please forward your e-mail address to Bernie Frick to sign up.

 

Phyllis Morley would like to remind all hike leaders to forward the sign-up sheet to her so that all the new hikers will get the correct credit for the 30 miles for membership. If you are a guest and feel you have met your 30 miles, but have not been mentioned in the newsletter please contact Phyllis Morley at (717) 764-6822. 


Any hike leader who has maps (topo, hand drawn, or otherwise) of past hikes they have led are asked to send a copy to Tim Schmidt, president 

    Tim has volunteered to maintain a catalog of hikes to be shared with future hike leaders who are looking for suggestions of where to hike. Thanks!

* "If there are no objections within 10 days" refers to things like almost getting a hike kicked out of a park.

A sheet is handed out to all New hikers at the parking lots before the hikes.

 

Our new place for meetings/events  is inside the York Township Recreation Building, directions as follows:

  From I-83 exit 16, take Queen St (PA-74) south for about 1 mile.  At Campbell Music, turn left onto Oak St.  Drive about a tenth of a mile and stop at the stop sign; do not turn right.  Drive straight ahead past the township building to the small building in the middle of the field.
