All are welcome to come on out on a hike to see what the club is all about.

 

A welcome sheet is handed out at every hike.  This sheet has all you need to join and get on the mailing list.

July 4 J.P.J. Picnic & Hike: Join us for a covered-dish, pot-luck, summer picnic at 1 PM at the JPJ cabin. A short hike will begin at 10 AM from JPJ Cabin. Bring boots and water. Hike leader: Helmut Wirschel at (717) 854-0671. To coordinate food, contact Eric Ling at (717) 815-6635. House-use fee of approx. $1 per person for those joining in the day’s activities. 

July 11 Long Hike: Approx. 11-12 miles in Michaux State Forest beginning on the northern edge of Caledonia State Park at Quarry Gap Road. Loop hike partially following state forest trails, going around the Chambersburg Reservoir, and then returning by the A.T. Bring hiking boots, lunch, plenty of water, rain gear, bug spray, etc. Meet at Adams Electric at 8:30 AM. Carpool fee: $4. Optional stop at Adams County winery after hike. Leader: Gwen Loose at (717) 891-9967 or 

July 18 Short Hike: 4-5 miles, Wrightsville area, leaving from the John Wright building – some road, some walking by the river. Meet at Boscov's East Parking (near the Texas Roadhouse) off PA 24 at 12:30 PM. Carpool: $1.50. Bring suitable footwear and drinking water. Leaders: Bob and Julie Falsetti at (717) 854-3437.

July 25 Short Hike: Hike 4-5 miles of Lake Williams trails. Meet at the Vo-Tec (York County High School of Technology) parking lot at 12:30 PM (or 12:45 at the Lake Williams parking lot). No fee. Bring suitable footwear and drinking water. Hike leader: Eric Ling at (717) 815-6635).

July 27 Board of Directors Meeting: 7 PM at 121 Indian Rock Dam Road, York (Allen Britton, 717-741-0624).


ANNOUNCEMENTS:

 

New Member: We welcome into membership Todd Trimmer, York PA 17406.

 

Thursday Work Trips: Special project, reconstruction on the Mason Dixon Trail of the Sawmill Bridge, needs extra workers. Come join the group that does trail work, usually on the MDT. Call Jim Hooper at (717) 252-3784 or for time and place.

 

Keystone Trails Association (KTA) Susquehanna Super Hike: September 11: 26 miles on trails along the Susquehanna River. Volunteers are needed to help with this event. This document can be completed and attach it to an email sent to Lou Tateosian . Also one can mail the form to: 209 Reynolds Mill Rd, York, PA 17403 or to the contact listed on the form. York Hiking Club will host a spaghetti dinner for KTA staff and event committee on Friday, September 10 at JPJ Cabin. To help with food, serving, etc. contact Gwen Loose at (717) 891-9967 or .

 

Advance Notice: On Oct 8-10, 2010 we will go to Wellsboro and start hiking the new section of the Mid-State trail from Blackwell to the NY border. There are multiple places to eat in Wellsboro including the Wellsboro hotel with their smorgasbord. It is hard to get reservations in the fall so I need a head count. Please let me know ASAP. Our club has a CARD COMMITTEE: If you know someone with a serious illness, having surgery, etc, you may notify Sally Zimmerer at (717) 235-3158 and she will send them a card.

 

Reminder, anyone wishing to receive their newsletter by e-mail instead of by postal mail (we have saved postage costs keeping dues down), please forward your e-mail address to Bernie Frick to sign up.

* "If there are no objections within 10 days" refers to things like almost getting a hike kicked out of a park.

A sheet is handed out to all New hikers at the parking lots before the hikes.

 

Our new place for meetings/events  is inside the York Township Recreation Building, directions as follows:

  From I-83 exit 16, take Queen St (PA-74) south for about 1 mile.  At Campbell Music, turn left onto Oak St.  Drive about a tenth of a mile and stop at the stop sign; do not turn right.  Drive straight ahead past the township building to the small building in the middle of the field.
