All are welcome to come on out on a hike to see what the club is all about.

 

A welcome sheet is handed out at every hike.  This sheet has all you need to join and get on the mailing list.

Fee for a hike is only if one Carpools.

 

Please volunteer to lead a hike or two for this year's schedule!


Nov 1 - Short hike 5 Mile Rocky Ridge Circuit Hike with varied terrain. Bring hiking boots, snacks and water. Meet 1:30 PM at North End meeting place next to Rutter's Store. Car Pool Fee $0.50. Hike Leader Alan Noble, PH 717-938-8506, .


Nov 1 - Long hike Hike # 3 on the A.T. "Series Across Maryland." 10 miles starting at Rt 70 there is a gradual 400 ft climb. From there, it is mostly ridge hiking with a few minor ups and downs up to Rt. 77. Bring hiking boots, lunch and water. We will leave Adams Electric at 8 AM (Eastern Standard Time). You get an extra hour Saturday night. Car Pool Fee $5. Leaders Tom and Phyllis Morley 717 764 6822 or .

Nov 8 - AT Work Trip We will be boundary painting, cleaning up the shelter and other AT work depending 
on the weather. Meet at the North End meeting place next to Rutter's Store at 8;30 AM. Bring work gloves, boots, water and lunch. No hike fee. Call Jim Hooper (252-3784 or ) if you have questions.

Nov 15- Medium hike 8 miles to complete the A.T. "Series Across Maryland." From MD RT 77 to PenMar State Park and the PA line. Enough ups and downs to keep all happy. Bring lunch, water, boots, and dress for any weather. Meet at Adams Electric at 8:30 AM. Fee: $5. Leader: Gwen Loose at (717) 891-9967 (preferred) or

Nov 22- Annual Turkey Dinner at JPJ Open, free and great fun for club members only! Meal served at 1:30 PM, hot cider and cookies at 1 PM. Annual dues of $10 (or you can donate at a higher level) must be paid in advance to treasurer Bernie Frick at the address above (checks made out to York Hiking Club) or at the JPJ door before the meal. We still need people to bring vegetables, drinks, desserts and all the fixens’. Volunteers are also needed to serve and clean up. To help out and to make your dinner reservation contact Gwen Loose at (717) 891-9967 (preferred) or .com before Tuesday Nov. 17 at 8 PM. To work up our appetites, hike leaves JPJ cabin promptly at 10 AM lead by Jim Hooper and a leisurely walk leaves the cabin at 11:30 AM lead by Joyce Hooper. Come and enjoy!

Nov 29- Short hike cancelled. No hike leader. 


Nov 29- Long hike About 9 miles around Prettyboy Reservoir. Several ups and downs but no big hills. Bring lunch, water, and boots. Meet at Vo-Tec (York County High School of Technology) at 8:30 AM. Fee: $4. Leader: Tim Schmidt at (717) 235-5940.

The following person has fulfilled the requirements for membership and will be invited to join the club if there are no objections within 10* days: Charlie Gladfelter, Manchester, PA. 

Activity leaders needed for next year: Visit the 2010 calendar posted on the porch of JPJ cabin during the turkey hike/dinner and sign-up to be an active member of York Hiking Club - lead a hike, help clear a trail, offer a slide show, organize a meal, or mix it up with a bicycle ride, some geology, moonlight walks….and thanks!

Thursday Work Trips: Every Thursday a group meets to do trail work. Contact Jim Hooper at (717) 252-3784 or .

Hike leaders remember to contact Phyllis Morley immediately after your hike to report number of club members and guests who were on the hike and the number of miles hiked. If the hike is cancelled, still let her know. Email or phone 764-6822 or snail mail a copy of the sign-in sheet to 2640 Wexford Lane, York, PA 17404 -anyway will do!!!

Reminder, anyone wishing to receive their newsletter by e-mail instead of by postal mail (we have saved postage costs keeping dues down), please forward your e-mail address to Bernie Frick to sign up.


Any hike leader who has maps (topo, hand drawn, or otherwise) of past hikes they have led are asked to send a copy to Tim Schmidt, president 

    Tim has volunteered to maintain a catalog of hikes to be shared with future hike leaders who are looking for suggestions of where to hike. Thanks!

* "If there are no objections within 10 days" refers to things like almost getting a hike kicked out of a park.

A sheet is handed out to all New hikers at the parking lots before the hikes.

 

Our new place for meetings/events  is inside the York Township Recreation Building, directions as follows:

  From I-83 exit 16, take Queen St (PA-74) south for about 1 mile.  At Campbell Music, turn left onto Oak St.  Drive about a tenth of a mile and stop at the stop sign; do not turn right.  Drive straight ahead past the township building to the small building in the middle of the field.
