October 5- SHORT HIKE: Easy 3 to 4 mile hike on country roads in Longstown area. One long downhill and a few rolling hills. Treats and drink at my home afterwards. Meet at Boscov's East Parking lot (near Texas Roadhouse) at 1 pm, or my home at 1:15 pm. Hike fee .50. Hike leader Joan Overall. Phone 755-5240.

October 12 - SHORT HIKE: 5-6 mile circle hike in the Accomac area, hiking along the Susquehanna River. Hike will consist of paved and dirt roads with one short hill. Bring good boots, water and snack Meet at the Galleria Mall, Boscov's East Parking (across from Texas Roadhouse) at l:00 pm. Car pool fee $1.00. Hike leader Joan Fitzpatrick 840-1101 or .

October 12 - LONG HIKE: Enjoy PA fall colors hiking along the Tuscarora Trail form Pole Cat Road to the intersection with the AT, then along the AT to Scott Farm. Approx. 14 miles. No shuttle: a volunteer will meet us at Scott Farm and return drivers to cars. Lots of woods walking, ups and downs, travel through new AT underpass at RT 944. ½ mile of road walking. Depart from Adams Electric at 8:30 AM. Bring water, lunch/snacks, hiking boots, and prepare for any type weather. Carpool: $5. Leader: Gwen Loose (717)891-9967.

October 17-18-19: Susquehanna Trail Weekend - This will be the last set of hikes on the Susquehannock Trail. We will drive up on Friday, stay at a bed and Breakfast in Coudersport, hike both Saturday and Sunday and then return home. Limited rooms left. Contact Jim Hooper 717-252-3784 to sign up or for information.

October 25-SHORT HIKE: SATURDAY at 1:30. - It’s time for the annual Halloween Hike in Tateoland! This is a laid back hike from our house over farmland, woods, and dell. Stretch yore legs for 5 mile or 2 mile or so, or yawl jest come late and set a spell on the porch and wait. Wait for the serving of the Soup de Journey and Horsedurrs, and the socialness of the happy-after-hike-hour in our humble abode. Meet in front parking lot of Vo-Tec (York County High School of Technology) at 1:30 or 209 Reynolds Mill Road at 1:45. No car pool fee. Hike leaders Sarah and Lou Tateosian 741-2652.

October 26 - MEDIUM HIKE: Depart Boscov's East Parking lot at the Galleria Mall, near the Road House Restaurant at 11:00 AM. This will be a joint hike with the BATONA Hiking Club. Following the course of Buck Run, hike upstream to the covered bridges. We climb a hill for and unforgettable view of Chester County. We follow Doe Run, ascend high grassy meadows and in the twilight walk a quiet road to Mortonville. 7 miles. Cost $6. 00 carpool donation, plus $1.00 for the Brandywine Conservancy: Leaders: Lore & Allen Britton-717-741-0624, .

October 26 - LONG HIKE: Continuing with the (MDT-Series) we will be hiking from Hazelwood Dr. to 896 on Freemont Rd. approx. 9 miles. This is found on map #9. The Trail takes us through Iron Hill Park (Memorial to Robert Yost, founder of the Trail) is located in this park and we go right by it, plus other parks and a preserve, streams, fields, woods and paved roads. Wear hiking boots, bring a lunch and water. Meet at Vo-Tec (York County High School of Technology) off of RT 74 at 8:00 AM. Carpool donation is $6.00. Stopping for dinner on the way home is an option. Jim & Joyce Hooper are the leaders. Call 717252-3784 or if there are any questions.

Tuesday, October 28 - Board of Directors meeting 7:00 at Jim and Joyce Hooper's House. 

ANNOUNCEMENTS: IMAGINE, this is our Hiking Clubs DIAMOND ANNIVERSARY, 75 years of Fellowship. We want our Turkey Dinner to be a memorable one, so please step forward and do your part. We still need people to bring the vegetables, drinks and the rest of the fixens and we can’t forget the desserts. Also we need folks to volunteer to serve, clean up and set the tables. Seventy-five years is a lot of history so let’s make this one to remember. Thanks to Joan Fitzpatrick, Gaylene Forry and Audrey Omanoski we are assured of the Turkeys. Remember the dinner is for Members Only!!! No Guests. Your dues must be up to date. You Can send them to Bernie Frick or pay at the door. Please contact Allen Britton, or phone me at 740-0624. Friday, October 3, Annual Meeting, ***NEW LOCATION***- The Annual Meeting and Covered Dish will begin at 6:30 pm at the Wrightsville House, 129 North Front Street, Wrightsville. The meeting will begin at 7:30 and will include election of officers and cost of dues. DIRECTIONS: From York, head east on US Rte 30 to the Wrightsville exit. Turn right at the end of the ramp onto Cool Spring Road. After the Rutters, turn left onto Locust St. Continue to Front St and park in the lot across the street on your left. Enter the Wrightsville House from the side door.

* "If there are no objections within 10 days" refers to things like almost getting a hike kicked out of a park.

A sheet is handed out to all New hikers at the parking lots before the hikes.

 

Our new place for meetings/events  is inside the York Township Recreation Building, directions as follows:

  From I-83 exit 16, take Queen St (PA-74) south for about 1 mile.  At Campbell Music, turn left onto Oak St.  Drive about a tenth of a mile and stop at the stop sign; do not turn right.  Drive straight ahead past the township building to the small building in the middle of the field.
