SEPTEMBER 4 - Trail improvement hike: Meeting time 9:45 AM. Work Trip to the Otter Creek section of the Mason Dixon Trail. MEETING PLACE will be at the JPJ Cabin near Otter Creek. Most trail tools will be provided. The weather may be hot so bring extra water, plus lunch, fruit and snacks. Bring gloves and sturdy foot wear. Contact Skip Newcomer if you plan to attend, 891-5206 or . A carpool from Boscov's East Parking at Galleria Mall will meet at 9:00 AM. Contact Jim Hooper 252-3784.

SEPTEMBER 5 - LABOR DAY PICNIC at JPJ: Labor Day Picnic at JPJ. A mystery hike led by John Seville will begin at 10:30 a.m. The covered dish lunch at 1:30 p.m. will be coordinated by Joan Seville. Please call Joan at 244-6769 and let her know what you're bringing.

SEPTEMBER 10 - KTA SUPER HIKE: We need volunteers to get the trail in shape for the Super Hike. For trail work join Jim Hooper on the Thursday sessions. Contact Jim at 717-252 3784 or for details. We also need volunteers to make a spaghetti dinner, for the KTA and volunteers at JPJ Friday night. The cost of the food will be reimbursed. SEPTEMBER 11- Training on how to lead a hike as well as a short hike as part of that. We will hike from Hooper’s Farm to the Native Land Heritage Park, to the artist point. We will have our training there and from there continue our hike to Klines Run Park for end. Bring hiking boots, snack and water. Meet at 1:00 PM at Boscov's East Parking area, Galleria Mall near Texas Roadhouse, Mt. Zion RD. (Rt 24). Car pool fee $ 1.00. Hike leader Joyce Hooper, 717-309-3115 or

SEPTEMBER 11- MEDIUM HIKE: A hike of about 7 miles along the scenic Gunpowder River. We will start at Bunker Hill and hike up to Pretty Boy Dam and return to Bunker Hill. Beginning and end of trail is repeated, but a nice loop in the middle. Some rocky terrain and up and down hills for a good work out with great views of the river and waterfowl. Bring hiking boots, lunch, water. Meet at Adams Electric at 9 AM. Car pool fee: $2.00. Hike leader: Kim Shue or 717-637-7103.

SEPTEMBER 18 - SHORT HIKE: Mildly strenuous, 5 mile hike at Tumbling Run. Bring good boots and water. Meet at Adams Electric Building at 1pm. Car pool fee $1.50. Hiker Leaders: Frank and Mary Phipps, 717-818-8035.

SEPTEMBER 18 - LONG (AT HIKE): About nine miles on the AT. Starting at Sheet Iron Roof Road and ending in Boiling Springs. Many options for food and beverage in Boiling Springs. Hike will include two significant climbs with no major water crossings. Bring lunch, sturdy boots, water, and appropriate apparel for the day. Meet at Adams Electric at 8:30 am. Car pool fee is $4.00. Hike leaders Tom & Phyllis Morley - 764-6822.

SEPTEMBER 25- MEDIUM (MASON DIXON HIKE): This 8 mile hike will start at JPJ and end at Holtwood Dam, this takes you up and down on Susquehanna River Hills and on some roads. Bring hiking boots, lunch and water. Meet at 9:00 AM at the Vo-Tec (York County High School of Technology) Parking lot, from Queen St.(RT 74) off of Pauline Drive. Car pool fee $2.00. New Member: The following person has fulfilled the requirements for membership and will be invited to join the club if there are no objections within ten days.

Please mark your calendar for the Annual meeting which will be held October 21th at 6:30 p.m at the York Township meeting building. Our new place for meetings/events  is inside the York Township Recreation Building, directions as follows:

  From I-83 exit 16, take Queen St (PA-74) south for about 1 mile.  At Campbell Music, turn left onto Oak St.  Drive about a tenth of a mile and stop at the stop sign; do not turn right.  Drive straight ahead past the township building to the small building in the middle of the field.

NOTICE: There will be a vote at the Annual Meeting to revise the By-Laws, Article I - Membership, to eliminate the 10 day waiting period after a prospective member has completed the 30 mile or equivalent service requirement for membership. Article VIII requires a two week written notice and a two-thirds vote of members present to amend the By-Laws. For more information, contact Tim Schmidt, 717-235-5940.

KTA 2011 Fall Meeting & Hiking Weekend Sept.30-Oct.2 in Prospect, Butler County, Lutherlyn Camp. It is going to be an amazing weekend filled with a wide variety of hikes, kayaking/hike options and other activities, in a peaceful, beautiful setting. Oct. 7-9 Away weekend: Hike on the northern extension of the Mid-State trail near the New York border. Contact Jim Hooper 717/252-3784 or if interested.


For those who are interested in joining our club and feel that you have gotten close to or met the 30-mile requirement, please contact me. There are times that I do not receive the information from some of the hikes and other times where I may not get it added in to your miles correctly. You may contact me either by e-mail at pamorley@comcast.net or by phone 717 764-6822.

* "If there are no objections within 10 days" refers to things like almost getting a hike kicked out of a park.
