to the York Hiking Club Newsletter, a complete monthly listing of hikes,
work trips, special events and announcements.
All are welcome to come on out on a hike to see what the club is all about.
A welcome sheet is handed out at every hike. This sheet has all you need to join and get on the mailing list.

April 6 - SHORT HIKE: Circle hike at Tumbling Run. Mildly strenuous five mile hike. Bring good hiking boots, water and a snack. Meet at the
Adams
Electric Building parking lot at 10:00. Hike leaders Frank and MaryPhipps 292-6690 or 818-8035.
April 6 - LONG HIKE: We will hike 9 or so miles in the Catoctin Mountain National Park and Cunningham Falls State Park. If President Bush is on the mountain, there will be a small bushwhack. Expect a small stream crossing, lots of mountain climbing and great views. We will check out Camp Misty Mount. On this hike, the pace will be reasonable because Sarah and Lou Tateosian are leading! Plan to dine after at Uncle Murley’s. We will leave promptly
at 9 AM from Adams
Electric. Carpool fee $3. High top hiking boots required. Bring H2O and trail lunch. In case of rain or polar ice cap check with us
at 741-2652 to confirm the activity.
April 13 - AT WORK TRIP: Continue the work stated in March including boundary painting. Effort will depend on what problems are discovered on the March Work trip. Meet at the
North
End meeting place next to Rutter's Store at 8:30 am. Bring work gloves, boots, water, lunch and a daypack. Contact Jim Hooper 252-3784 if you have any questions.
April 18-20 KTA Spring Board & Council Meeting - Wellsboro, Pa.
April 20 - LONG HIKE: FRENCH CREEK STATE PARK: This will be an 11 mile joint hike with the York Hiking Club. The hiking here is not difficult just a few hills. Bring lunch and something to drink. Meet
at the Vo-Tec (York
County High School of Technology) at 8:30 AM. We will eat out after the hike. Cost: $9.00 Leader Allen Britton 717- 741-0624

April 26-27 FLOWER WEEKEND AT JPJ: Come to the cabin for a sleepover Saturday night! Sarah is cooking the evening meal for the
overnighters. We will take a owl walk after dark. Maybe we will toast marshmallows
or smores by the fireside. For Saturday evening meal reservations please call Sarah Tateosian
at 741-2652.
April 26 - SHORT HIKE: Around Lake Williams about 5 miles. Meet at Vo-Tec (York
County High School of Technology) at 1:00 PM. Bring water and sturdy shoes. Hike leaders Bob and Julie Falsetti (717-854-3437).
April 27 - WILDFLOWER HIKE: Join John Seville at 10:00 AM at JPJ John will take us along the Susquehanna to enjoy the spring flowers and then onward for a five mile hike. At 1:30 PM we will get together at JPJ for a covered dish dinner and good company. Please call Allen Britton 717-741-0624 to coordinate the food.

Due to building renovations, our Annual Meeting will not be held at the York Twp. building. Suggestions for a meeting place can be forwarded to Tim Schmidt, club president, at

Volunteer Needed:
To organize the York Hiking Club support for the KTA Mega-hike scheduled for September 6. If interested, contact Tim Schmidt as listed above for more details.
Trail Maintenance:
Every Thursday a group meets to do trail work. Contact Jim Hooper at (717) 252-3784 for location/time/details.
OTHER ANNOUNCEMENTS:
KTA will hold an Endangered Hiking Trail Seminar May 17, 2008 at the KTA office in Harrisburg to provide volunteers with training, knowledge and support that will enable them to work with landowners to obtain more permanent access to hiking trails crossing their properties. Contact Kate Leventry at

The Mason-Dixon Trail System is trying to get the trail off the roads and needs help from citizens in the following townships: Hellam, East Manchester, Connewago, Warrington and Franklin. Contact Jim Hooper (717) 252-3784 if interested.
***Notice to hike leaders*** Please be prompt getting names of hikers and guests to the membership chairperson, Phyllis Morley,
, so they can get credit for their miles hiked. E-mails are fine, but both members and nonmembers must be included.
Any hike leader who has maps (topo, hand drawn, or otherwise) of past hikes they have led are asked to send a copy to Tim Schmidt, president
Tim has volunteered to maintain a catalog of hikes to be shared with future hike leaders who are looking for suggestions of where to hike. Thanks!
