A welcome sheet is handed out at every hike.  This sheet has all you need to join and get on the mailing list.

APRIL 4 HAPPY EASTER - No Hike


APRIL 10 Saturday: River to Hilltop joint Hike with York County Parks. Take a 4-mile moderate hike on the Mason Dixon Trail from Wrightsville at river level to a stunning panoramic view of the Susquehanna River at High Point. Meet at the Boscov's East Parking lot at 8:30 am or Wrightsville Boat Launch at 9 am. Call Jim Hooper 252-3784.


APRIL 11 Short Hike: Come enjoy a 4.5 - 5 mile Spring Circle hike around Lake Williams. Dress for warm weather and muddy trails. A few minor ups and downs and one steep climb. Bring boots, water and a snack. Hikers will meet at the Lake Williams Boat Launch, on Water Street, at 1 p.m. No car pool fee. Hike Leaders: Regina Markle and Steve Smith at 717-428-3545.

APRIL 11 Medium Hike: Moderately strenuous 8 mile loop hike on Cove Mountain with great views of the Susquehanna River from Hawk Rock overlook and mountain ridge. Bring hiking boots, lunch & water. Meet at the North End meeting place next to Rutter's Store at 8:30 am. Car pool fee $5.00. Hike Leader: Kim Herbst, 887-4462 or .

APRIL 17 Saturday: M-DTS hike and meeting. Hike 6-miles on the Chadds Ford end of the Mason-Dixon Trail and attend a M-DTS meeting. The hike starts at 10 am in the Chadd's Ford elementary school or contact Jim Hooper, 252-3784 or , to car pool.

APRIL 18 Flower Hike & Covered Dish Lunch: Join John Seville at 10:00 am at JPJ for the flower hike. John will take us along the Susquehanna River to enjoy the spring flowers and then onward for a 4-5 mile hike. At 1:30 we will get together for a covered dish lunch. Call Kim at 887-4462 or   with your choice of covered dish.

APRIL 25 Short Hike: Scenic 4-mile hike beginning at High Rock, the highest point in the Pigeon Hills, and ending at the Square in Abbottstown. Walking will be on roadways, tho most are only lightly traveled. Meet at the west end meeting place at Adams Electric at 1:00 pm. wear hiking boots or sneakers and bring water. Car pool fee $1. Contact hike leader Lyn Becker at 717-451-6694.

APRIL 25 Long Hike: Moderately strenuous 11.2 mile hike - the first leg of the Appalachian trail's ridge top route between Caledonia and Pine Grove Furnace State Parks. One of the prettiest sections of Penn's Woods. Bring hiking boots, lunch and water. Meet at the west end meeting place at Adams Electric at 8:00 am. Car pool fee is $4.00. APRIL 23 - 25: KTA Weekend at Wellsboro

APRIL 27 Tuesday: Board of Directors meeting 7:00 at Tom and Phyllis Morley’s house

APRIL 30-MAY 2: Hooper away weekend. Hike Saturday and Sunday on the Thunderswamp trail in the Poconos. Stay in a motel. Contact Jim Hooper, 252-3784 or , ASAP for reservations.

Thursday Work Trips: Come join the group that does trail work, usually on the MDT. Call Jim Hooper at (717) 252-3784 or for time and place.

 

Lyme disease: Please let your members know that tick season is right around the corner. We know very little about the chronic phase or the lingering effects of Lyme disease. Funds are being raised to pay for continued research on this rapidly spreading disease. The fundraising event is being held May 6, 2010. You may find more details at www.springforlyme.org and in the attached PDF files Info and FAQ's.

KTA Susquehanna Super Hike September 11: 26 miles on trails along the Susquehanna River. We need volunteers to help at JPJ and along the hike route. Contact: Club president contact Tom Morley at (717) 764-6822 or for more information.

 

Our club has a CARD COMMITTEE: If you know someone with a serious illness, having surgery, etc, you may notify Sally Zimmerer at (717) 235-3158 and she will send them a card.

 

Reminder, anyone wishing to receive their newsletter by e-mail instead of by postal mail (we have saved postage costs keeping dues down), please forward your e-mail address to Bernie Frick to sign up.

 

Any hike leader who has maps (topo, hand drawn, or otherwise) of past hikes they have led are asked to send a copy to Tim Schmidt, Tim has volunteered to maintain a catalog of hikes to be shared with future hike leaders who are looking for suggestions of where to hike. Thanks!

* "If there are no objections within 10 days" refers to things like almost getting a hike kicked out of a park.

A sheet is handed out to all New hikers at the parking lots before the hikes.

 

Our new place for meetings/events  is inside the York Township Recreation Building, directions as follows:

  From I-83 exit 16, take Queen St (PA-74) south for about 1 mile.  At Campbell Music, turn left onto Oak St.  Drive about a tenth of a mile and stop at the stop sign; do not turn right.  Drive straight ahead past the township building to the small building in the middle of the field.
