Dec. 23 (short): About 4 miles around Gettysburg town and battlefield with optional stop at the historic Dobbin House Tavern for a hot brew after the hike. A great hike to help get us into the holiday spirit!
This route is directly from “Gettysburg for Walkers Only”, Tour #2 by Jerome H. Miller and Dolores Miller. Mostly easy walking on side-walks/paved roads, with 2 significant hills plus an optional trip up stairs in an observation tower. The “in-town” portion visits some historically significant places such as the passenger depot that President Lincoln debarked at prior to his famous Gettysburg Address. The “battlefield” portion will lead you past gorgeous fields, woodland, and to some well known battlefield locations, such as Culp’s Hill.
Bring: good boots/shoes, snack, camera, weather appropriate clothing. Please note, at this time of year, some of the battlefield restrooms are closed. Leave 12:30 P.M. from
Adams Electric lot. Car pool fee: $2.50. Leader: Terri Ring (717) 378-0317 or
. Please call before 8 P.M.
Dec. 30 (long): Approximately 8.5 miles on Tuscarora Trail to Flat Rock and returning through Colonel Denning Park trails. There are 2 long climbs and some rocky terrain, and two stream crossings which won’t get you wet unless we have wet weather before this hike. This could burn off the extra holiday pounds, but there may be Christmas cookies as extra incentives. Meet at
North
End meeting place next to Rutter's Store at 8 A.M. Bring: good walking boots, water and lunch. Car
pool fee: $5. Co-leaders: Tom and Phyllis Morley (717) 764-6822.

All three levels provide full membership, this is just one of many ways members can contribute to the club. Make your check payable to York Hiking Club for $10 for Hiker (base level), $15 for Trailblazer, $20 for Pathfinder, or more if you wish, and mail it to Bernie Frick or pay at JPJ before the Turkey Dinner.
Any hike leader who has maps (topo, hand drawn, or otherwise) of past hikes they have led are asked to send a copy to Tim Schmidt, president
Reminder, anyone wishing to receive their newsletter by e-mail instead of by
postal mail (we have saved postage costs keeping dues down), please forward your e-mail address to
Bernie Frick to sign up.
Please volunteer to lead a hike or two
for this year's schedule.
