Fee for a hike is only if one Carpools.



Feb. 3 (Short): Approx. 4-5 miles in Rocky Ridge Park. We will start at the upper parking lot. We will go through the arch and hike on trails 8,3,9,2,1,4. We will take trail 4 to the road and take the exercise trail up to the parking lot. We will then take trail 8 and come back trail 3. This hike is a perimeter hike. There is a steep climb on trail 3. We will meet at the Galleria Mall across from the Texas Roadhouse Boscov's East Parking at 1:30 PM. No car pool fee. If you want to go to the upper parking lot of Rocky Ridge, that's fine with me, you don't need to let me know. Hike leader- Bill Anderson (717) 993-2828. Feb. 3 (Long): A Mason Dixon Trail Series (make up 3rd try). We will hike 10.7 miles on dirt and hard roads starting in State Game Land 243 and ending at Pinchot State Park, trail map#1. Wear walking shoes/boots suitable for hard surfaces. Bring lunch and water. Meeting place: Adams Electric at 8:30 A.M. Car pool fee: $3.00. Hike leaders Jim & Joyce Hooper. (717) 252-3784 or .

Feb. 10 (Chili Hike): Hike will be approx. 3-5 miles depending on weather conditions, and will begin at 10:30 AM from JPJ cabin. We will climb to Urey Overlook and follow the MDT down to Otter Creek Campgrounds and back to JPJ. Hike co-leaders: Bob Falsetti & Al Britton. Dinner at 1:30 PM. Call (717) 854-3437 or e-mail Julie Falsetti before 9:00 P.M. Thursday, February 7 to make meal reservations. Meal cost will depend on Julie’s cost. Please bring your own place setting so we can be environmentally friendly. (No Paper).

Feb.17 (Medium): This is a Mason Dixon Trail series, also the 2nd try because of bad weather. We will hike 6.9 miles all on roads with some hills, starting near I-83 and ending at Wago & Gut Rd., trail map #2. Meet at Boscov's East Parking (across from Texas Roadhouse) at 9:00 A.M. Bring good boots/walking shoes, lunch or snack, water. Car pool fee: $2.50. Leader: Joan Fritzpatrick (717) 840-1101 or .

Feb. 15, 16,17 (Away Weekend): We will hike, cross-country ski, sled, weather permitting. We have limited space at High Winds Lodge so make your reservations early. Four-wheel drive is best for Mt. conditions. Pack up your toys and have some winter fun. Contact Jim or Joyce Hooper: (717) 252-3784 for specifics and reservations.

Feb.24 ( Short): We will take you on a 5-mile hike on the Gettysburg Battle Field. Come & enjoy this area at a different perspective. Walk through Picket's Charge and other locations of the battlefield. Some road and trail walking. Bring boots & water. Leaders Linda & Jim Bean (717) 764-1091. $3.50 fee. Meet at Adams Electric 1:00 PM.

Feb. 24 (Long): Approximately 11 miles on the Raccoon Trail and AT in the Michaux Forrest. Moderate to Strenuous climbs due to rocks. Good vistas if the weather is cooperative, some small stream crossings. Come with us and get rid of that February cabin fever. Bring sturdy footwear, lunch and water. Hike fee: $5.00. Meet at Adams Electric at 8:00 AM. Hike leaders: Tom and Phyllis Morley (717) 764-6822.

Hike leaders are needed for the months to come! 

 

Usage fees for JPJ cabin have changed to $1.00 per day per person for both members and guests. 


***Notice to hike leaders*** Please be prompt getting names of hikers and guests to the membership chairperson, Phyllis Morley, , so they can get credit for their miles hiked. E-mails are fine, but both members and nonmembers must be included.

Every Thursday a group meets to do trail work. Contact Jim Hooper for location and time (717-252-3784)

Any hike leader who has maps (topo, hand drawn, or otherwise) of past hikes they have led are asked to send a copy to Tim Schmidt, president 

    Tim has volunteered to maintain a catalog of hikes to be shared with future hike leaders who are looking for suggestions of where to hike. Thanks!

Reminder, anyone wishing to receive their newsletter by e-mail instead of by postal mail (we have saved postage costs keeping dues down), please forward your e-mail address to Bernie Frick to sign up.

* "If there are no objections within 10 days" refers to things like almost getting a hike kicked out of a park.
