JAN. 6 - PORK & SAUERKRAUT HIKE: - Join us for the traditional Pork & Sauerkraut event at JPJ. There will be about a 6 mile circle hike from the cabin at 10:00 a.m. As usual, please be prepared for the ups & downs & rugged terrain in this area. Good boots & water and a positive outlook for the New Year are all that are required! Once again Diane McCoy will be preparing the meal. The meal will be served at 1:30 p.m. to hikers & non-hikers alike.
Reservations are required & must be made by 9:00 p.m. January 3, & once made, must be paid. Cost for the meal will tentatively be $4.00 for members & non-members. Call Diane at 852-7570 to reserve.
JAN. 11- Covered Dish & Slide Night 6:30 p.m. at York Township Recreation Building. Bring your favorite covered dish to share. We will have a slide presentation on activities of the York Hiking Club over the past three years. Please come out with your covered dish, look for a glimpse of yourself, and also get a good idea of all the activities that are happening within the club. Guarantee to be a fun night. Slides will be shown by Joyce Hooper.
JAN. 13 - Short Hike: 4.5 miles in Lower Windsor Township. All road walking with a few short hills. Wear good walking shoes. Meet at the Galleria Mall,
Boscov's East Parking (across from Texas Roadhouse) at 1:30. Car pool fee is $1.00. Hike leader: Deb Clemons (717) 246-1497.
JAN. 13 - Long Hike: About 12 miles on the Conestoga Trail in Lancaster County between the Arboretum at Holtwood Recreation Area and Martic Forge. This is not an easy 12 miles due to the elevation changes and a possible stream crossing, but it’s one of my favorites because of the variety: hike along Kelly’s Run on a designated National Recreation Trail, climb to the Pinnacle Overlook for one of the best views of the Susquehanna River, explore Cool Cave, stroll through the town of Pequea and see our cabin from the Lancaster side, then follow the Conestoga Creek away from the river to Martic Forge. Bring good foot ware, lunch and water. Meet at the
Boscov's East Parking lot at 8:00AM. Car pool fee
$4. Contact Bernie Frick at 843-6675 with questions.
JAN 20 - Short Hike: Approx. 4 miles at Nixon Park. Trails consist of Old Field, Geology and Hardwood. Bring good boots and warm clothing. Meet at
Vo-Tec (York
County High School of Technology) at 1:00 PM. Car pool fee $1.00. Hike leader: Regina Markle (717) 428-3545.
JAN 20 - Long Hike - Approx. 9-10 miles in the Hemlock area of Tuscarora State Forest & Big Spring State Park. Will be about 1 ¾-2 hour driving time so please note the earlier meeting time. Please bring good boots, lunch, & plenty of water. We will leave the
