Fee for a hike is only if one Carpools.

June 2,3-A.T. Work Trip Weekend:  This will be the major work trip of the year.  Our objective is to cut back the spring growth on our section of the AT.  We need all levels of help, from people operating weed whackers to people using loppers or helping with the logistics.  Meet at the North End meeting place next to Rutter's Store at 8:30 AM.  For those coming out on Sunday, please contact the leader on Saturday night to find out what work is left.  Bring work gloves, water, lunch, good boots and a day pack.  No hike fee.  Contact Jim Hooper at j.e.hooper@ieee.org or 252-3784 if you have questions.                       

June 10-Short Hike:  cancelled-no hike leader

June 10-Long Hike:   Join leader, Gwen Loose, for a 10 mile hike on the AT beginning at Shippensburg Rd.  No major climbs but expect rocks.  Meet Adams Electric 8:30 AM.  Bring boots, water, and lunch.  Carpool fee $4.00.  Contact Gwen Loose (717) 891-9967.

June 16-Mason Dixon Work Trip/Meeting: Meet at Apollo Park parking lot at 9 AM or at 2 PM at the YHC cabin for the meeting.  Bring work gloves, boots and a day pack with your water and lunch.  Contact Jim Hooper (717 )252-3784 if you have any questions.

June 17 Short/Medium Hike: 5.5-8.6 miles on MDT. Start at Wildcat Falls and do a short hike of 5.5 miles easy road walking along the Susquehanna River to John Wright Rest. Then, for those who wish to have a medium hike thru the woods, there will be a group continuing on, adding 3.1 miles mainly up hill,  through the newly acquired County River Hill’s Park of “High Point”.  Sit on hay bales and listen to the history of the park while enjoying a 360 degree view of the river.  Bring boots, water, lunch/snack. Carpool fee $2.50.  Meet Boscov's East Parking at 2 PM. Leader: Kim Jones (717)637-7103, co-leader Joyce Hooper 252-3784.

June 23 (Saturday) Short Hike:  Enjoy a 6 mile circular hike along Conewago Creek in Detters Mill area.  Leader:  Frank Phipps 292-6690.  Meet Adams Electric 9:30 AM.  Carpool fee $1.50.  Good boots/shoes, water.

June 24 Long Hike:  MDT hike series from Klines Run Park to Apollo Park.  The kick off hike on the MDT back in Feb. ended at Klines Run Park.  This is a long hike of 8.7 miles along the Susquehanna River on strenuous, rocky terrain with numerous ups and downs.  Leaders:  Jim and Joyce Hooper (717) 252-3784. Bring boots, water, lunch.  Meet Boscov's East Parking at 8 AM.  Carpool fee $3.00.

June 24: Join the Lancaster Hiking Club for a hike on CTS along Hammer Creek.  Afterwards, enjoy picnic at leader, Ken Fillo’s house with grilled dogs/burgers. Bring a dish to share.  Carpool at 1:15 PM from Buchanan Ave. at the end of N. West End Av, Lancaster.  From US 30, go right (southeast toward the city) on Harrisburg Pike about a mile.  Right on President Av about a half mile.  Left on Buchanan Av. Two blocks.  Park where you can, and join us at Buchanan Park right where N West End Av ends.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: 

June 2 (Saturday) 8 AM: The ATC headquarters in Harpers Ferry is celebrating its grand opening of the AT museum in conjunction with National Trails Day!  Anyone interested in attending this event may contact Gwen Loose at (717)891-9967 or Kim Jones at (717)637-7103.  We plan to meet at 8 AM and carpool to HF, hike about 1-2 miles of the AT to the ATC HQ, attend the ceremony and then hike/explore HF in the afternoon.  Hike distance depends on participants.  Bring boots, water, lunch, car pool fee and park entrance fee (about $7 total).

SIGN UP: Mason Dixon hike leaders needed. An easy job - hikes are already planned out for you. Short, medium and long hikes, and easy to difficult terrains are available. Contact: Joyce Hooper at (717) 252-3784.
