to the York Hiking Club Newsletter, a complete monthly listing of hikes,
work trips, special events and announcements.
All are welcome to come on out on a hike to see what the club is all about.
A welcome sheet is handed out at every hike. This sheet has all you need to join and get on the mailing list.

for a hike is only if one Carpools. Please note that Deborah, who was scheduled to lead the Long Hike on June 1, will not be available. Jim McCoy has agreed to lead a long hike in her place. Jim’s hike may or may not be the one that Deb had planned. In any event, the meeting will be as was scheduled, at Adams Electric at 8:00 AM. Bring boots, lunch and plenty of water. almost getting a hike kicked out of a park.

June 1 (short): Susquehanna State Park. Enjoy a beautiful overlook of the river while hiking 4-5 miles in this scenic park. Some ups and downs, so bring good shoes/boots, water, snack. Hike leader and contact: Sandy Grove (717) 244-9122. Meet

June 1 (long): About 9.4 miles along the Tuscarora Trail from Sterretts Gap to Route 74. Lots of ups and downs. I've never been here so bring a spirit of adventure (and maybe a compass). Bring boots, lunch, & plenty of water. Meet at

June 7,8 AT Work Trip: Join the club in its annual brush clearing effort on the AT. We need people of all different skills from operating brush cutters to using loppers and other hand tools. Meet 8:30 AM at

June 15 (medium): Spring Valley County Park circuit hike of about 7 miles. This is a multi-use trail of varied terrain, which may have muddy or wet portions. Rookie hike leader: Alan Noble (717) 938-8506 (H), (717)817-9430 (C), amnoble@ptd.net (email). Meet

June 22 (short): 4 miles around Gettysburg town and battlefield. Mostly easy walking on sidewalks/paved roads but 2 moderate hills. Optional observation tower climb. Will see multiple historic buildings/battlefield locations including Spangler’s Spring and Culp’s Hill. Optional stop at historic Dobbin House Tavern for a cool drink afterwards. Meet

June 22 (long): (MDT-SERIES) This 10.4-mile hike will begin in Perryville, MD. and will end in North East near Rt.7. We will be on and around, roads (hard & dirt), RR beds, woods, creeks, ponds, business parks, housing developments, a park, and bridges. It is found on the MDT Trail map #7, at mile 1.8 to 12.2. Meet 8:30 AM at
Vo-Tec (York

June 28 Saturday (short): Circle hike at tumbling run. Mildly strenuous five mile hike. Bring good hiking boots, water and a snack. Meet at the

WANTED: Club "Talkers" Help spread the word about our club by offering to staff an information table at Shanks Mare Outfitters in Wrightsville, Saturday August 2, 10 AM -4 PM and Sunday August 3, Noon to 4 PM. The Mason-Dixon Trail System is trying to get the trail off the roads and needs help from citizens in the following townships: Hellam, East Manchester, Connewago, Warrington and Franklin. Contact Jim Hooper (717) 252-3784 if interested.
