All are welcome to come on out on a hike to see what the club is all about.

 

A welcome sheet is handed out at every hike.  This sheet has all you need to join and get on the mailing list.

Saturday, June 1 - Short (but steep) Hike - Climb 900' up Peters Mountain on YHC's section of the AT and return on the Susquehanna Trail. Bring boots, water & snack or lunch. The hike will be finished around noon with the option of visiting the DATC Festival afterwards where you can buy lunch. Meet at North End meeting place next to Rutter's Store at 8:00. June 2 - AT work hike - This will be the first day of our annual brush clearing of the AT on Peter's Mtn. We will be operating string trimmers, loppers and hand saws. Meet at the North End meeting place next to Rutter's Store at 8:30 am or at the river end of Peter's MTN at 9:15 am. Lunch, water and work gloves are recommended. June 8 – No Hike

June 16 – Father’s Day – No Hike

Wednesday June 19 – Short hike - A 5 or 6 miles hike will begin at 10:30 AM at 121 Indian Rock Dam Rd. The Britton Homestead. There will be some road walking before we begin our trek by Lake Redman and Williams. I think you will find this a little different than most Wednesday hikes. Please join us, you may find you like the idea of hiking mid-week. Contact Allen Britton 717-741-0624 or

Saturday, June 22 - MDTS Trail Care and Quarterly Meeting - Here's your chance to help the Mason-Dixon Trail System build a relocation near Conowingo Dam in Maryland. The Trail Care will start from the Conowingo Visitors Center, 4948 Conowingo Rd, Dublin, MD at 9am. You are also invited to attend the meeting afterwards if interested. Bring boots, gloves, lunch & water. Contact Tim Schmidt , 717-235-5940, for directions, more information, or to arrange for a carpool.


June 23 - Short Hike - 5 mile out and back hike from Glatfelters Station on the Heritage Rail Trail to the tunnel and back to Glatfelters Station. The rail trail is a crushed stone bike path. Bring good walking shoes or hiking -boots, water, and snacks. Meeting place is at the South Parking lot Vo-Tec (York County High School of Technology) at 1:30 PM. Car pool fee is $1.00 if you are carpooling. Hike Leader is Alan Noble (717-817-9430 or ). If a hiker would like to meet at Glatfelters Station instead of the meeting place, please notify the hike leader.

JUNE 30 - MEDIUM HIKE - 8.9 miles (by gps) in Michaux State Forest on the Buck Ridge Trail, and the Scenic Vista & Rock Scree trails in Kings Gap. A 1,000 ft. climb (long & gradual, over about 4 miles) to start the hike, then generally downhill the rest of the way. Bring good boots, lunch, & plenty of water. We will leave the west side meeting place (Adams Electric) at 8:00 a.m. Carpool fee $5.00. Leader Jim McCoy, 717-852-7570 or


Announcements: 

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED to greet people at the Duncannon Appalachian Trail Community (DATC) Festival on Sat. June 1 and tell them about your favorite activity: hiking and/or trail work with YHC. Contact Tim Schmidt ( ), 717-235-5940.

 

FEELING LEFT OUT???: Please don’t be bashful feel free to step forward anytime to lead a hike. Please don’t wait to be asked. Call the monthly chairperson or me Al Britton 717-741-0624 or . I will put you in touch with the right person. Not sure you know what to do or you would like some one to go over the hike with you, well call me, I’ll be glad to help. No experience is necessary, just a desire to get involved. The hike can be of any length.

Our new place for meetings/events  is inside the York Township Recreation Building, directions as follows:

  From I-83 exit 16, take Queen St (PA-74) south for about 1 mile.  At Campbell Music, turn left onto Oak St.  Drive about a tenth of a mile and stop at the stop sign; do not turn right.  Drive straight ahead past the township building to the small building in the middle of the field.
