JUNE 6, SATURDAY – NATIONAL TRAILS DAY

JUNE 7, SUNDAY, AT WORK HIKE: We will be clearing brush on Peters Mtn... Meet at the North End meeting place next to Rutter's Store location at 8:30 or at the parking lot by the rail road tracks (river end of Peters Mt.) at 9:15. If you have any questions contact Tom Morley at (717) 764-6822 or .

JUNE 13, SATURDAY: KTA Super Hike Preview Hike/ Trail Run #2: Saturday, June 13, 2015: Pequea Creek Campground to Lock 12 (first half of 50k). Meet at Pequea Creek Campground at 9:00 AM to set up shuttle. This will be a fast-paced event, and appropriate for trail runners and very fast hikers. This option is intended for trail runners participating in the 50k. Rain or shine. Bring water and lunch. Leader: Alan Noble, 717-817-9430 or amnoble@live.com. Limited to 10 participants. JUNE 14, SUNDAY - Short Hike: 5 mile loop hike around Lake Williams. Starting and ending at the dam parking lot on South George Street. Meet at Vo-Tec (York County High School of Technology) at 1:00PM. Carpool fee $0.50 if planning on carpooling to the trail head. Bring water and good boots. Deb Clemons 717-659-8973 .

JUNE 21, SUNDAY - Short Hike: Approximately 5-6 mile loop hike in the Accomac area hiking along a section of the Susquehanna River. Hike will consist of paved and dirt roads with one short hill. Meet at the Boscov's East Parking lot across from the Texas Roadhouse to leave at 1:00 PM or John Wright parking lot at 1:15 PM. Carpool fee $1.00. Hike Leader: Kim Herbst (717) 887-4462 or

JUNE 27, SATURDAY - Long Hike: 9.5 miles on the Standing Stone Trail, including Thousand Steps; a thousand rock steps that miners once took to commute to work daily. We’ll begin by doing Thousand Steps, visit an overlook, head North on Standing Stone Trail to another overlook and then return. The climb up Thousand Steps is strenuous and there are a couple climbs later in the hike as well. This trail has plenty of rocks and great views. To try to beat some of the heat, we’ll meet at 7:00am at the North End meeting place next to Rutter's Store. Bring lunch, water and hiking shoes. Carpool fee is $8.00. Welcome Harvey Loucks of York is now a member of the club. He can be reached at silverh18@aol.com. We have also sent a letter to Barbara Clayton, also of York, inviting her to join the club. Please welcome these folks when you see them on the trail.

Backpacking Trips 2015. Anyone interested in backpacking in 2015 should let either Tom Morley, or Jim McCoy know. We plan trips every now and then and we would like to know of any members who might be interested. Women are encouraged to sign up, current female members backpacking are: Kim Herbst, Gwen Loose, Regina Markle, Elyshia Menkin, and Barb Culton. Any of these people can let you know how much fun we have.

If you would like to lead a Family Friendly hike please contact the monthly chair person, a short hike is recommended.

Reminder to hike leaders - please submit your sign-up sheets to Phyllis Morley in a timely manner so that our guests get credit for their miles.

WANTED: Individuals who are willing to lead short hikes on Wednesdays There is no need to wait for the weekend to get outside. Our Wednesday hikes were intended to bring out some of the old timers, which is still my goal; however, if you are willing to lead a hike of five to seven miles then do so as it is good to get outdoors midweek. Also, people willing to be hike leaders. If you know a hike, but are reluctant to step forward, please be assured that I will be glad to show you what is necessary to become a hike leader. No experience is necessary, just a desire to get involved. The hike can be of any length. I would be glad to go with you to scout out the hike. Give me a call or e mail me 717-741-0624 or

Please note: Our historian, John Seville, notes that the York County 
Heritage Trust has a sizable collection of York Hiking Club memorabilia in its library. However, the material dates only from the Club's Founding in 1932 to the early 1980s. For the past 30 years very little material has been added to our collection. We want to correct this omission; so John is asking members who have Club related items that might be suitable for inclusion in our archives to call him at 717-244-6769. Examples would be minutes of meetings, accounts of special events, photographs, newspaper articles, etc. We do not need any more copies of the annual log books.

Card Committee: Linda Bean has graciously agreed to be our “card committee” since Sally Zimmerer has moved from the area. If you know of someone with a serious illness, having surgery, etc., please notify Linda at .net or 764-1091 and she will send them a card.
