A welcome sheet is handed out at every hike. This sheet has all you need to join and get on the mailing list.

for this 2019 year. Hike Leaders Wanted: We are so thankful for all of our hike leaders and were fortunate to add several new hike leaders this year. We are always in need of additional new hike leaders, so please consider leading a hike or two in 2019.

SUNDAY, MARCH 3 - MEDIUM HIKE (6 MILES): Explore the current and future routes of the Mason-Dixon Trail in Hellam Hills. One third of the hike will be off-trail on uneven and sometimes rocky or muddy terrain. Two stream crossings. Wear hiking boots and gaiters if you have them. Bring lunch, snacks & water.

FRIDAY, MARCH 8 – COVERED DISH AND PROGRAM: Bring a dish to share for our March covered dish and Program event starting at 6:30 P.M. Contact Alan Noble with the covered dish you plan to bring.
Program: Leave No Trace based on material from the Appalachian Trail Conservancy and the Leave No Trace organization. Presenter Alan Noble
Meeting Location: York Township Recreation Building, directions as follows: From I-83 exit 16, take Queen St (PA-74) south for about 1 mile. At Campbell Music, turn left onto 25 Oak Street, York PA 17402. Drive about a tenth of a mile and stop at the stop sign; do not turn right. Drive straight ahead past the township building to the small building in the middle of the field.

SUNDAY, MARCH 10 (DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME BEGINS) - SHORT HIKE (6 MILES): Hike around Rocky Ridge County Park. The hike will start at the Hidden Laurel Picnic Area parking lot, then trail 7, 8, 3, 9, 2, 1, 4, and possibly 6. We will stop at both overlook platforms on trails 6 and 2. Trail has several hills, and some may be strenuous and rocky in some areas. Bring hiking boots or tail shoes, water, and snacks.

SATURDAY, MARCH 16 – AT BOUNDARY WORK: This involves walking off the trail over the side of the mountain to find boundary markers, refresh paint on the trees, and prune out the undergrowth along the boundary. Wear sturdy shoes, warm clothes, heavy pants and jackets, bring lunch and water. This is a unique experience and you will see the mountain as never before. If coming let Tom know the week before.

SUNDAY, MARCH 17 – MEDIUM OR LONG HIKE (8.5 OR 14 MILES): We’ll return to the Standing Stone Trail (STS) to complete the Monument Rock section. We’ll start at the parking area for the Todd Trail, hiking up and over the mountain, eventually meeting up with the STS. From there we’ll stay on the STS, climbing up to the next ridge to see Monument Rock. Expect steep climbs, rocky terrain, and possible icy/snowy conditions. Bring hiking shoes/boots, snack, water, lunch. This hike is approximately 1 hour 45 minutes from York, hence the earlier departure. Traction devices may be needed.

SUNDAY, MARCH 24 – SHORT HIKE (4.5 MILES): Hike on trail 5 at Lake Redman. The trail has some steep climbs but is a well-maintained trail. Bring hiking boots or trail shoes, may be muddy if recently rained. Also bring water and snacks.

SUNDAY, MARCH 24 – LONG HIKE (9 to 10 MILES): Hiking in Gettysburg National Military Park. We will meet at 9:00AM in parking lot number 3 which is west of the visitor center. Follow signs to the visitor center. Pull into parking lot 3 and go to the far east end of the lot. The hike will start there. We will hike a loop trail passing some of the most significant highlights of the battle. The trails will be paved, grass, & gravel, with some moderate hills. Pack a light lunch and plenty of water.

SUNDAY, MARCH 31 – SHORT HIKE (5 MILES): This scenic hike starts at the Wrightsville Boat Launch and ends at the Moon Dancer Winery parking lot. We will have moderate elevation going through Murphy’s Hollow, Grace Plateau, and on to High Point, where you have a 360-degree view of the river and surrounding hills. Please bring water, snacks and wear good walking shoes/boots.
