work trips, special events and announcements.
All are welcome to come on out on a hike to see what the club is all about.
A welcome sheet is handed out at every hike. This sheet has all you need to join and get on the mailing list.

May 3-4 Away Weekend - Hike on the Susquehannock Trail both days and stay in the Frosty Hollow Bed and Breakfast in Potter County. Limited accommodations. Contact Jim Hooper (717) 252-3784 for reservations or questions.
May 4 Short Hike - 5-6 mile circle hike in the Accomac area, hiking along the Susquehanna River. Hike will consist of paved and dirt roads with one short hill. Bring good boots, water and snack. Meet at the Galleria Mall, east side of
Boscov's East Parking (across form Texas Roadhouse) at 1:00 pm. Car pool fee $1.00. Hike leader: Joan Fitzpatrick at (717) 840-1101 or

May 11(Mother’s Day) Short Hike - This scenic 5 mile hike starts at Wrightsville boat launch and ends at Moon Dancer Winery parking lot. We will have moderate elevation going through Murphy’s Hollow, Grace Plateau, and on to High Point, where you have a 360-degree view of the river and surrounding hills. Julie will be preparing snacks to eat at the winery after we finish the hike. Please bring water, snacks and wear good walking shoes/boots. Car pool fee $1.50. Meet at

May 17- (Saturday) Long Hike - MDT-SERIES - The 10.9 hike will begin at Fisherman’s park, MD by the Susquehanna River, where bald eagles are spotted. Along the railroad bed, we should see spectacular carpets of wildflowers. We will pass an historical grist mill (restored and open on weekends). The trail will be both off roads in wooded areas with stream crossings and back on to roads, and ending at McLhinney Park with a tour of a former canal lockhouse, now a museum, which only opens on Sat. Bring hiking boots and lunch. Meet at
Vo-Tec (York
County High School of Technology) parking lot at 8 am. Hike fee is $5. Call Joyce Hooper (717) 252-3784 with questions.
May 18 Short Hike - Easy 3 to 4 mile hike on country roads in Longstown Area. One long downhill and a few rolling hills. Treats and drink at my home afterwards. Meet at
Boscov's East Parking lot (near Texas Roadhouse) at 1 pm or my home at 1:45pm. Hike fee $.50. Hike Leader: Joan Overall at (717) 755-5240.
May 18 Long Hike - About 9 miles along the Gunpowder River just north of Pretty Boy Reservoir in Baltimore County, mostly on fire roads. A few moderate climbs (400’). Hike includes ruins of old paper mills, old cemeteries and the gorgeous Hemlock Gorge. Short section could be swampy. Bring boots, lunch, & plenty of water. (Sandals for wading optional). Meet at
Vo-Tec (York

May 25-26 Memorial Day Weekend at JPJ - A short hike will be led by John Seville at 10:30 am on the 26th followed by a covered dish. Please call Joan Fitzpatrick
to answer you questions (840-1101) by Thursday the 22nd to coordinate the food that people will bring.

KTA will hold an Endangered Hiking Trail Seminar May 17, 2008 at the KTA office in Harrisburg to provide volunteers with training, knowledge and support that will enable them to work with landowners to obtain more permanent access to hiking trails crossing their properties. Contact Kate Leventry at

KTA Spring Hiking/ Meeting is April 17,18,19 in Wellsboro, PA, Registration before April 2, 2008. Info at

The Mason-Dixon Trail System is trying to get the trail off the roads and needs help from citizens in the following townships: Hellam, East Manchester, Connewago, Warrington and Franklin. Contact Jim Hooper (717) 252-3784 if interested.
***Notice to hike leaders*** Please be prompt getting names of hikers and guests to the membership chairperson, Phyllis Morley,
, so they can get credit for their miles hiked. E-mails are fine, but both members and nonmembers must be included.
Any hike leader who has maps (topo, hand drawn, or otherwise) of past hikes they have led are asked to send a copy to Tim Schmidt, president
Tim has volunteered to maintain a catalog of hikes to be shared with future hike leaders who are looking for suggestions of where to hike. Thanks!
