A welcome sheet is handed out at every hike.  This sheet has all you need to join and get on the mailing list.

OCTOBER 4: ANNUAL MEETING (with hike, meal and slide show) at the JPJ Cabin. There will be a hike at 10 AM and a hot dog roast/covered dish luncheon at 1:30 PM, with meeting starting with dessert. Al Britton will provide hot dogs. Call him to help with food at (717) 741-0624. After the meeting, Bernie Frick will entertain us with a short slide show of the ATC conference held this summer in Vermont. Y’all come ‘n set a spell! 

OCTOBER 11: SHORT HIKE - Hike 5 miles in the Lake Williams/Redman area. Bring water, snacks, and good walking/hiking shoes. Hike leader: Helmut Wirschal, 854-6071. Car Pool Fee $.50 Meet Vo-Tec (York County High School of Technology) at 1 PM.

OCTOBER 9-11: THUNDER SWAMP TRAIL WEEKEND OF HIKING Stay in a motel in East Stroudsburg and hike Saturday and Sunday. Due to fall color season we need to get reservations in ASAP. Questions & Reservations: Contact Jim Hooper (717) 252-3784.


OCTOBER 18: SHORT HIKE- Gifford Pinchot State Park 4.5 mile loop hike on the Conewago Day Use side. Mild to Moderate trail conditions with some over growth in a few places. Certain areas of the trail can be muddy depending on rainfall for the week. Bring hiking boots, water, and snacks. Meet at 8 AM at the North End meeting place next to Rutter's Store. OCTOBER 18: LONG HIKE - Approx. 10 miles in Michaux State Forest on the A.T. from Sheet Iron Roof Rd. to Pine Grove Furnace State Park. A long gradual climb of 800 ft about 1/3rd of the way into the hike & a long gradual descent of about 700 ft to finish. We’ll take the side trail to Pole Steeple to check out the views. Please bring good boots, lunch, & plenty of water. We will leave the west side meeting place (Adams Electric) at 8AM Car Pool Fee $5. Hike leader: Jim McCoy, 717-852-7570 or .


OCTOBER 25: MEDIUM HIKE - Come hike Gifford Pinchot State Park on a fall day!! We will be hiking 8.5 miles around Lakeside Trail. This trail is mainly flat with a few ups and downs. Bring water, lunch and good hiking boots. Meet at Adams Electric at 9 AM. Car Pool Fee $2. Hike leaders: Regina Markle and Steve Smith. Contact Regina with any questions at 717-428-3545.

ANNUAL TURKEY DINNER: VOLUNTEERS NEEDED to set-up, cook, and clean up for annual turkey dinner on November 22 at JPJ Cabin. Contact Gwen Loose at (717) 891-9967 or email at on or before November 10 to help out. Much appreciated!

PLANNING TO USE JPJ CABIN? It is important that you let the house chairperson, Sarah Tateosian, 741-2652 know when you want to use the JPJ facilities. Also, please make sure it is properly secured and clean when you leave.

Any hike leader who has maps (topo, hand drawn, or otherwise) of past hikes they have led are asked to send a copy to Tim Schmidt, president 

    Tim has volunteered to maintain a catalog of hikes to be shared with future hike leaders who are looking for suggestions of where to hike. Thanks!

A sheet is handed out to all New hikers at the parking lots before the hikes.

 

Our new place for meetings/events  is inside the York Township Recreation Building, directions as follows:

  From I-83 exit 16, take Queen St (PA-74) south for about 1 mile.  At Campbell Music, turn left onto Oak St.  Drive about a tenth of a mile and stop at the stop sign; do not turn right.  Drive straight ahead past the township building to the small building in the middle of the field.
