SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 5 -- SHORT HIKE: (5 MILES) Loop hike in Spring Valley County Park. Nice mix of scenery and trail types. 


Meet at main parking lot on Potosi Road (not the one in the Animal Activity Area, which does have a toilet). 
Departure: 9:00 AM

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 6 - LONG HIKE (8-10 MILES): Shuttle hike along a section of Liberty Reservoir, leading down to Liberty Dam. Expect ups and downs, roots and rocks. I may find a side path or three to explore. It could be a tad soggy below the dam but there should be a workaround if that’s the case. Bring snacks, water, lunch and good hiking shoes. It’s possible we may have to pay to park at one end so come prepared to chop in. THIS IS A SHUTTLE HIKE. WE WILL RIDE IN EACH OTHERS’ VEHICLES AT THE BEGINNING AND END.

 

If meeting at the trail, the location is: 714 Marriottsville Rd, Marriottsville, MD 21104 and you should be there by 8:15 AM. 
York Area Meeting Location: I 83 and MD 439 Park & Ride, Exit 36 in MARYLAND (east side of 83)
Departure Time: 7:30 AM
Carpool Fee: $5.00 (+parking?)

SATURDAY FEBRUARY 12TH – MEDIUM HIKE (6 MILES) Let’s meet at 9:00 AM. at the Galleria Mall parking lot, Red Robin side Boscov's East Parking and carpool to Wrightsville. We will start our walk at the Riverfront Park in Wrightsville and hike to the Marietta Rivertrail Pavilion. This is an easy paved hike/walk that does not require hiking poles. Dress warm and pack snacks if you desire to do so.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 20 - CHILI HIKE/DINNER: Promptly at 10:30 AM. Kim Herbst will lead a 5-6 mile hike starting from JPJ, returning in time for a chili dinner at 1:30 p.m. Call Bernie Frick at (717) 854-3437, or email by 9:00 p.m. Thursday, February 17 to make meal reservations which once made must be paid. Meal cost $5.00 plus $1 cabin use fee for members and $2.00 for non-members.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 27-SHORT HIKE-(4.5 miles) Let’s go just south of the Mason Dixon Line to near Parkton, MD. There we will hike on the Northern Central Railroad Trail called the Torrey C. Brown Rail Trail. We will walk along beautiful icy Fourth Mine Branch of Little Falls Creek. This will be a out and back hike so you can do more or less as you choose.

Meeting Location: York County High School of Technology (Vo-Tec) off Queen Street. Departure Time: 1:00 PM

ANNOUNCEMENTS: 

 

Hike leaders are needed for the month of March, please contact Alan Noble at or (717) 758-8470 with the hiking information.

 

Board Member and Officer Openings: The club is in need of some members to take over some very important roles, with immediate openings for Activities Chair, Trails Chair, and Secretary. These roles are critical to the ongoing operation of the club. For more information you may contact Alan Noble, President or the outgoing chairmen, David Lukes (Activities) and Tom Morley (Trails).

 

May 21: The A.T. Museum will host a special event on Saturday, May 21, at Pine Grove Furnace State Park---time and exact location to be determined. Event is a special presentation and book signing by Heather Anderson, who holds many records for hiking AT, PCT, and CDT as well as mountaineering across the US and abroad. https://www.nationalgeographic.com/adventure/article/heather-anderson-hiker for National Geographic article about her hiking achievements. Individuals who are willing to lead short hikes on Wednesdays area also wanted. If you would like to lead a Family Friendly hike on Saturday or Sunday please contact the monthly chairperson. A short hike is recommended. Contact David Lukes with any questions about leading hikes at

* "If there are no objections within 10 days" refers to things like almost getting a hike kicked out of a park.

A sheet is handed out to all New hikers at the parking lots before the hikes.

 

Our new place for meetings/events  is inside the York Township Recreation Building, directions as follows:

  From I-83 exit 16, take Queen St (PA-74) south for about 1 mile.  At Campbell Music, turn left onto Oak St.  Drive about a tenth of a mile and stop at the stop sign; do not turn right.  Drive straight ahead past the township building to the small building in the middle of the field.
