FRIDAY EVENING, AUGUST 13- SHORT SUNSET HIKE (3 MILES) – Starting at 6:00 PM we will hike across Perrydell Farm and talk to the cows…or we could sing to the cows. Bring some money to buy an ice cream cone or chocolate milk if you like at the Dairy. Then we will hike back over the farm and enjoy the sunset colors.

Meeting Location: Bridgeway Church, 255 Reynolds Mill Road, at the back area of the parking lot

SATURDAY, AUGUST 14 – MEDIUM OR LONG HIKE (7 or 14 MILES): Hike from beautiful, historical Gathland State Park to C&O Canal Towpath - 7 miles and/or return 14 miles. We will explore this section along Appalachian Trail and see Weverton Cliffs which offers view of the Potomac Valley near Harper's Ferry, learn much Civil War History at park while hiking on hallowed ground in some of South Mt. Recreation Area. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF COMING since will need a second car to park at Weverton Rd. Hike is strenuous prob. b/c cliffs. Wear sturdy hiking shoes, bring plenty of water, lunch, snacks. We can relax, eat lunch then explore Gathland Park when returned from the hike!

SUNDAY, AUGUST 15 – MEDIUM HIKE (7 MILES): An evening loop hike in Pine Grove Furnace State Park. Meet at Furnace Stack Pavilion at 4:30 PM. We’ll hike until dark. Bring water, snacks, headlamp, good boots. We’ll visit Pole Steeple, hike along Mountain Stream. Ice cream stop after hike.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 21 – SHORT, MEDIUM, OR LONG HIKE (5-20 MILES): We’ll start at the Lake Redman boat launch and hike up to Lake Williams, around half of Lake Williams, and into Nixon Park. We can refill water at the Nature Center and then head back to do the other half of Lake Williams and the bulk of Lake Redman. There are two tunnels under I-83 that will take us to the trails on the other side of the highway. They can be wet, so I’ve set a route that puts them as close to the end as possible. This will be a full day of briskly paced hiking on the trails of Lake Redman, Lake Williams, and Nixon Park. We’ll hike the longest route possible around the perimeter of the parks, and if there’s a hill, we’ll climb it.

Individuals who are willing to lead short hikes on Wednesdays area also wanted. If you would like to lead a Family Friendly hike on Saturday or Sunday please contact the monthly chairperson. A short hike is recommended. Contact David Lukes with any questions about leading hikes at

* "If there are no objections within 10 days" refers to things like almost getting a hike kicked out of a park.

A sheet is handed out to all New hikers at the parking lots before the hikes.

 

Our new place for meetings/events  is inside the York Township Recreation Building, directions as follows:

  From I-83 exit 16, take Queen St (PA-74) south for about 1 mile.  At Campbell Music, turn left onto Oak St.  Drive about a tenth of a mile and stop at the stop sign; do not turn right.  Drive straight ahead past the township building to the small building in the middle of the field.
