COVID-19 York Hiking Club Guidelines Great American Outdoors Act: The Appalachian Trail Conservancy authored letters to Congress in which the York Hiking Club signed along with the Appalachian Trail Conservancy and other clubs in the area on July 17, 2020. Club Secretary Needed: The secretary position is an officer of the Governing body of the York Hiking Club, responsible for official corporate minutes, and handles official correspondence of the club. SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 5 – LONG HIKE (8-10 MILES): Kings Gap Environmental Education Center, Cumberland County, 8-10 miles up and down with some scenic views and stop at the Mansion and gardens. Will start hike at Pine Plantation Area parking lot = first left on Kings Gap Road. Bring hiking boots, poles, water, lunch and snacks, bug spray. May have ice cream stop afterwards.
Meeting Location: Kings Gap Pine Plantation Parking Area Departure Time: 9:00 AM
Hike Leader: Kim Shue at 717-688-5142 Must call to secure spot. Limited to 15 hikers.
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 13 – LONG HIKE (12 MILES): Loop hike beginning at Quarry Gap Rd. We’ll hike around the Chambersburg Reservoir, and hike on sections of Rocky Knob Trail and the AT to PATC’s Milesburn Cabin and ATC’s Quarry Gap Shelter. Some stream crossings and good climbs. Bring lunch, water, and hiking boots.
Meeting Location: Caledonia State Park Visitor Center Parking Lot

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 20 – SHORT HIKE (5-6 MILES): Start hike at Lake Williams parking area & boat launch. We will be doing a loop hike around the lake with some ups and downs. Bring snacks, water, good hiking shoes or boots. Note, this is NOT the Lake Redman Boat Launch, and it is NOT the parking area on S. George/Susquehanna Trail. Check location before you go.
Meeting Location: Lake Williams Boat Launch, Water Street, Jacobus, PA

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 26 – MEDIUM HIKE (6 MILES): Loop hike starting from the parking Lot at the Northern End of the Enola Low Grade Rail Trail up to the top of Turkey Hill on the Turkey Hill Trail. See the great view of the Susquehanna, and check out the wind turbines at close range. Continue to Chestnut grove Natural Area with return along the Susquehanna river on Enola Low Grade Trail. The trail includes stream crossing and steep hill. Wear sturdy shoes, bring water and snacks.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
1. Stay home if you, or anyone in your family, are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, or have been in contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19.
2. Optional but recommend is carrying a CDC-approved mask and alcohol-based hand sanitizer
3. Practice social distancing of 6 feet apart. Masks should be worn when social distancing is not possible (PA Universal Face Covering Order). Example is when passing people on a trail.
4. No more than 25 people in a group (PA Guidelines). (continued)
5. Carpooling will not be provided by York Hiking Club. If personally carpooling and not from the same household, then mask should be worn.
6. All club hikes will be loop or out-and-back hikes which do not need carpooling.
Individuals who are willing to lead short hikes on Wednesdays

* "If there are no objections within 10 days" refers to things like almost getting a hike kicked out of a park.
